J. K. Harris

Nothing but liars and thieves. Texas settled the lawsuit against them earlier this year. The settlement check we received last month bounced. Why the federal government doesn't go after them is beyond me. They do absolutely nothing and then refuse to refund the monies that they literally stole from their victims. Dealing with them was a frustrating nightmare. Failure to return phone calls, having to resubmit information that had been provided previously, continuing to get garnishments from the IRS, penalities and interest growing. Even a used car salesman is better than them. At least you get something for your money.

My Wife and I used JK Harris in 2009 they took our money and over the course of a year they changed our contact person 6 times , each time they needed additional info, then one day they stated you need to pay the IRS and said our commitment to you is done I under stand now they are being sued by several people

Guest

I had an appointment with them today and just cancelled it because of all of these reviews. Thank you so much for sharing your experience and giving me a heads up on who NOT to deal with

Guest

I went to see them also and all they wanted to talk about was money. So thanks to you guys I didn't lose anything.

I did go online and found a company that I used that did not make any claims, but did offer a way for me to help myself.

Jk & Harris Scam

I found JK and Harris in the yellow pages and thought they would be a good company to go with. That I would qualify for a Offer In Compromise. Then I decided to do a back ground check on them the day after I found out my copys of the agreement papers were pretty much blank, could not see or read anything. Then I started thinking why did he want me to fill out the paperwork that I didn\'t have any imformation about it and told me to guest how much everything was. And that he was in a big hurry for me to sign the money orders of $1025.00 over to him cause he had to a flight to catch. I did a back ground check the day after and found out that they are scaming people all over the U.S. And Cancelled them 2-3 days after I found all the imformation on them. Damage Resulting = I canceled them the third day of being with them. I had to fax them a letter of cancellation letter the third day with them and another the fifth day again. Now they want to charge me initial processing and administrative fees (may comprise up to (25% of the total fee) and that these fees are non-refundable as of the fourth day of the contract. When I canceled them on the third day of the contract. And want me to sign a Receipt and General Release form. Which states all of JK & Harris Company are not to be reliable after I sign it. and only give me $769.00 of my money back instead of $1025.00. Which I am looking for an attorney to help me fight the case.I have not recieved any money back in return as of 6/27/11. Do not sign anything if they send you something eles to sign. If you have been scamed contact your states general attorny and hire an attorney and sue them....

I agree completely with these statements. Through my experience, I found that a resolution trained cpa can handle 90% of IRS problems.

I found my CPA through the Tax Relief Foundation and did just that.

I truly believe that the majority of companies that advertise on television will eventually make up their advertising costs on the customer. If you would like to save some time and money follow this mans advice.

I hired JKH April 2011 and an OIC was accepted

I met with a JK Harris consultant and he went over all the services they would do for me. He also told me they couldn't guarantee an OIC but would have an EA calculate my income/expenses to see what I do qualify for. Two months later, I get a call back and the consultant said my report is back and I qualify for an OIC. JKH prepared all the paperwork on my behalf. It was accepted two weeks ago. I paid JKH a total of $6,200 and made an offer to the IRS for $2,000 on a $76,000 debt.

JK RIP OFF

So I guess I'm not using JK Harris. I went to one of their offices and they wanted $2500. The first two payments were a month apart and were for like 426 each and the last two payments were for $820 each. He did all this calculation on what it would cost before looking at anything I had or even using a computer. Its also weird that the JK Harris tax representative doesn't have a local phone number and told me that "I travel quite often, which makes me believe that he will be here today and then gone tomorrow. Anyone know anything about Tax Resolution Professionals? Are they more trustworthy?

Never represent yourself before the IRS just because there are companies you consider crooked. Just find a responsible CPA firm in good standing. We are one. For valuable free info on dealing with the IRS, please visit our site. http://www.taxproblem.org When selecting companies to represent you before the IRS, it is important that you do the following: A) Hire a professionally licensed CPA firm. This is the license with the most accountability. You will never hear of a CPA firm with many complaints and government officials firing them for mal practice. They will lose their license before that ever happens. B) Hire a CPA firm that specializes in IRS representation. DON'T hire a CPA firm that adds IRS representation to a list of many services. They probably won't have the experience. C) Do some internet research on the company. Look at the complaints, read the good comments, and read up on their website. Always make sure to find as much information on the potential company.

You don't need to pay outrageous CPA fees (such as JK Harris). An H&R Block ® Enrolled Agent for $200.00 for ten hours work and 40.00 for every hour after, may be the Best Bet.

Why pay thousands when you don't need to. (I just called and got a quote of $2000.00 !).

Do not be another victim!!!!I was also a victim and now I am dealing with the IRS on my own. I paid JK Harris $3000 and they did nothing for me and they wanted another $2500 to place me in a none collection state, which I found out you can do yourself with help from the IRS if you qualify. I'm now asking for a refund from JK Harris which most likely I will not get. I would recommend try to deal with the IRS yourself before paying a attorney a tone of money for something you can do yourself.

Come on, now. Don't necessarily blame IRS.

The first person you blame is yourself for not paying your taxes on time. Then blame yourself again for hiring someone like JK Harris. Then blame JK Harris. They will take an initial payment from you, then attempt to see if they can file an Offer in Compromise and if not, they really have nothing to offer anyone that you cannot do yourself.

And, as an aside, don't ever ignore IRS letters, calls, etc.

That only makes them think you don't want to co-operate. Most, if not all problems with IRS can be done by yourself.

JK Harris wants your money, not help you.

I made the mistake of walking into a Harris office in Portsmouth NH. I had an issue with NY state taxes back to 1992 and 1993. The person I met with (Scott Carpenter from SC) was filling in for the person who normally manned that office(Dave Brunell), but of course failed to tell me. Scott took a copy of all my documents and $825.00. Three weeks later I have an appointment with the real person who works in that office. He had a plan based on documents that he has never seen, that based on my current work with a NY State licensed tax rep. as well as an Enrolled agent at H&R Block, were way off the mark. Quite frankly Dave was quite embarrassed. They even had me fill out an obsolete NY power of attorney at one point. Daves misinformed plans included me paying $1900.00 more. . . . Finally my case started being handled by people that I had never met with from SC who never requested or spoke with anyone from NY State. I only know this because I started speaking with NY myself and found out the way Harris was going was completely wrong. I feel lucky to have only lost $825.00. H&R Block is charging $200.00 for two Reps that are local and one has 15 years experience as a NY licensed Tax preparer (Linda Caton). The other is an Enrolled Agent, Kerry Robinson. Both out of Portland ME. Go local instead of getting the brush off to South Carolina.

J.K. Harris ripped me off

I contracted with JK Harris a couple of years ago because of some tax problems. All they did was increase my tax and penalty liability by 50%. They did absolutely nothing to mitigate my problem with the IRS. I sued in small claims court in Maryland and won. I then paid to have the claim registered in the state of South Carolina. The sheriff informed me that they had no assets to collect against and that South Carolina was a business friendly state and there was nothing he could do. Anybody who does business with this company is in for a rough time because the IRS is going to stick it to you because of them.

I'M SICK OF THIS

HELLO ALL. I AM ANOTHER CONSUMER WHO FELL FOR THE SCHEME OF THE COMMERCIALS OF J.K HARRIS TAX FIRM. I ORDERED THE BOOK THAT THEY ADVERTISED ON T.V AND THE SERVICE THEY OFFER FOR TAX RESOLUTION. SO MY STORY IS IN THE SAME BOAT AS YOU ALL. I HAVE A SMALL BUSINESS THAT'S BEEN UP AND RUNNING FOR SERVERAL YEARS NOW. REVENUE HAS BEEN UP AND DOWN DUE TO THE ECONOMY. NOW, I WAS SERVED WITH AN AUDIT. I WENT THROUGH THAT PROCESS AND WAS HIT WITH A BILL FOR $116,000. SOUNDS IRONIC DOESN'T IT... WELL, AFTER THAT, I CALLED J.K HARRIS AND WENT THROUGH THE PHONE INTERVIEW AND WAS TOLD NOT TO WORRY CAUSE J.K HARRIS IS ONE OF THE LARGEST TAX LAW FIRMS IN THE COUNTRY WITH THE BEST RESULTS WITH THE IRS FAR AS RESOLUTION. HERE IS THE KICKER, THEY SAID THAT THEY CAN RESOLVE MY TAX ISSUE AND HELP ME SAVE AT LEAST $80,000. TO ME, THAT IS GOOD NEWS, ANYTIME THAT I CAN SAVE MONEY FROM ANYTHING IN LIFE IS GOOD FOR ME. SO I ASKED THE FEE THAT IT WILL COST ME TO DO THAT AND THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD COST ME $11,500 AND IT CAN BE RESOLVED AROUND A MONTH AT THE LONGEST. SO I PUT DOWN $4500 TO START AND WOULD PAY THE REST OFF IN 2 PAYMENTS. WELL FOLKS, IT HAS BEEN ALMOST A YEAR NOW AND THE BAD PART ABOUT IT IS THAT, NOTHING WAS SET UP AT ALL WITH THE IRS. MY BANK ACCOUNT WAS LEVIED FOR THE MONEY THAT I HAD IN THERE WHICH WAS AROUND $13,000. MY HOME WENT INTO FORCLOSURE. AS WELL AS OTHER THINGS THAT HAPPENED THAT I CANT MENTION ON HERE. SO FROM TONS OF PHONE CALLS AND NONE RETURNED FROM MY REP THERE, CONSTANT VOICE MAILS, NOTHING HAS HAPPENED. SO I DID A LITTLE SOUL SEARCHING ONLINE TO FIND OUT A LITTLE MORE ABOUT THIS COMPANY AND FOUND TONS OF CONSUMERS LIKE MYSELF WHO WENT THROUGH THE SAME OR SIMILAR TRIALS. AND SEE THAT I WASN'T THE ONLY ONE. SO I FOUND A COMPANY THAT I READ ABOUT AND ALSO RESEARCHED AND FOUND NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT. I SPOKE TO THIS FIRM AND WAS CONNECTED WITH A YOUNG MAN BY THE NAME OF MR. WHITE FROM U. S TAX LIBERTY. WHEN WE SPOKE AND I LET HIM KNOW THE DETAILS ABOUT WHAT I HAVE BEEN THROUGH WITH THIS FIRM, HE CALMED ME DOWN AND REASSURED ME THAT THEY WOULD TAKE CARE OF ME. THERE WAS NO HIGH UPFRONT FEE, ONCE HE GAVE ME A CALL BACK WITHIN 2 DAYS, I KNEW WHAT DIRECTION TO GO IN AND HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST TO RESOLVE THE MATTER. AND THE PRICE WAS SO GREAT THAT I HAD TO SIT BACK AND THINK ABOUT IT FOR A SECOND. SO, AFTER A COUPLE OF WEEKS. I WAS SET UP AN AFFORDABLE MONTHLY PAYMENT PLAN, AND THERE WAS A SMALL REDUCTION IN THE AMMOUNT THAT I OWED. THAT TO ME WAS FINE CAUSE I KNOW THAT THE IRS ISN'T HANDING OUT LOWER RATES, SMALL SETTLEMENTS, OR REDUCTIONS TO PEOPLE THAT OWE THEM MONEY. I WAS JUST PLEASED TO DEAL WITH A FIRM THAT TELL YOU THE TRUTH UPFRONT WITHOUT ALL OF THE SALES B.S. THAT THEY LOVE TO PRACTICE AT THESE TAX PLACES. SO TO ALL OF YOU OUT THERE, I WOULD GIVE MR WHITE A CALL, AND SEE WHAT HE CAN DO FOR YOU. I REACHED HIM AT NINE FOUR NINE, THREE ZERO SEVEN, EIGHT SIX NINE TWO. HOPE THIS HELPS YOU OUT.

Nice try - you did the same thing complaining about Tax Masters - they suck too but US Liberty Tax shouldn't market this way.

Guest

This is a fake posting by U.S. Tax Liberty.

JK Harris is bad, but isn't it kind of low to make postings like this to advertise your company? Lame.

Guest

Russ is right. If this was an audit case then what was the result of the audit.

You don't get setup for an Installment plan while you are under an audit review.

Also not advocating JK Harris but come on it is way too obvious that you never dealed with JK HArris and highly doubtful that anything you wrote really happened. You are just as bad as you claim they are.

Guest

You are so full of ***. JK Harris began advertising the book you mention less than a week before you made this post.

You are not telling the truth. You are trying to sell a competiting service.

Like most people on this forum I have done some research. I found that America's Tax Network will do up to a two hour consultation for $99.00. Most of the places do a free consultation that doesn't turn out to be free.

Talk to these guys it could be the best $99.00 you could spend.

I have a judgment against JK Harris and am looking for any collection agency who has helped JK Harris collect on their contracts. I can get my money out of their collection agency.

Can you help me? TGCo2011@***.com

John N Mzy

Never, ever go to a firm like JK Harris. They are in the business of representing people who owe large amounts of federal taxes and want a large down payment in order to file an Offer in Compromise.

Your best bet is to always contact and talk to IRS yourself!!!

They are not ogres but if you ignore them, they become pissed and file liens, serve levies, etc. Save yourself some money and get ahold of them yourself.

Can you say Conartists ?

They *** you into believing they can resolve your tax issue for one fee. Then set up appointments,( they call phases ). They do not inform you of this upfront. Each phase more money. They are CROOKS ! I can not understand how a state could allow this to be happening & not shut them down. They have offices in alot of states, main one in S.C. I sit here w/a smile because any minute now the police are a coming to seize your things to sell, so I can get some money back. STAND UP PEOPLE. DO NOT LET THEM GET AWAY WITH THIS.
